chinese new year was a HUGE event many many years ago. it was like THE event of the year..bigger than christmas.

the whole world....(oops should not sound like the americans)..... the whole of singpaore comes into a standstill.

by CNY eve....there will be no more sweeping of floor...no more cleaning, everything not auspicious will not be done. and its simply just preparation for the next day.

reunion dinner was the banquet of the year too. you have chickens....big prawns...abalone... everything expensive. home is the only place you can find dinner. everyone will be home.

petrol stations will be close for 2 days and so everyone top up their tanks and even buy spare, just in case.

wet markets open pass midnite on the eve, mothers, grandmothers, aunties....will be there buying everything and anything.

first day of CNY..... and singapore will come to a standstill.... only people going out for visiting. fire crackers could be heard (legal then). and my personal fav....ANG POW!

fast forward...... today, all these are reverse. everything is 24hrs...petrol stations, some food court and supermarkets. no one will think of closing shops to celebrate CNY. money talks. chickens....we eat them everyday! prawns....kids hates them today, cos they are too lazy to peel it. abalone is no more a delicacy, many can afford to it.

times have change. people have change and we need to change with the times.

here's to good health and wealth to all my readers (like i have a lot)

GONG XI FA CAI!
