subsidies....

can someone please use english to explain to me wat that means...in reference to housing subsidies....

cos if there are real subsidies, why is it that i heard people saying "if the HDB flat cost $400plus thousand....i might as well get a condo".

i went to see a 2nd floor 5 room flat facing the road....no view what so ever.... it cost $300k plus.....come on..who can afford those kind of price for a HDB flat....a subsidised one some more! indded, i might as well go get a condo!
