can you buy success?

apparently some people think so.

not many moons ago, a rich russian guy decided to buy a new toy to satisfy his ego.... and flaunt his wealth.... so he buy his success, hoping to reap more happiness for himself.

its called chelsea... he was so rich, cos the price of crude oil was raising faster than ferrari on the F1 track...and he just buy and buy expensive player.... he got some old expensive players so that his new toy can add trophy to his prize cabinet.... so it did... for a couple of seasons.... but the one that he wanted most eluded him.... he was not happy, so he sold his very expensive players at a loss and buy even more expensive players and manager.....

then, there is a football club called manchester united, the club was build over many many years with long and rich history attached to the club. it became an icon. it was build with a youth programme so as to ensure success in many many years to come.....

fast forward...

same in our land, we are buying talent..... hoping to reap success..... bring glory.....

have we? are we proud of our success so far? are we 100% proud of our 48 year wait for a medal? i don't think so. if we are truly proud and happy, no one will say a single bad thing about the way we won it.... there will be no blogs or forum discussing about the way we won it. every 4 years one name crops up and then we reward him.... or otherwise we would have forgotten the man who won our first silver medal...

we have our fair share of outstanding sportsman and women.... simmer like ang peng siong, david lim, junie sng..... but then we believe in foreign talent, just like in the corporate world where we hire foreign talents cos we think that locals people cannot do the job, we pay these FT thousands and millions of dollars for a job that we can do....

why?

today, china is standing tall and proud... the time have come around.... china rules. even the so called super powers are afraid of them. the chinese have won which ever way you looked at it... no matter which country wins it, cos it was their fellow country men/women who have won and swept it all for their own country or for another country!!

so, can we really buy happiness and success.... and be proud of it?

i leave it to you to decide. buying talents is only an instant solution, nuturing is the best way forward even if it takes another 50 years.

i am again ranting it off cos i was reading about the bitching going on between real madrid and chelsea...... before that it was manchester with real madrid because real wanted to buy success by paying obscene amount of money whom they think can bring in more cash and glory for the club..... now real is tasting their own medicine because chelsea is using obscene amount of money to buy their player in the hope of winning glory and money....
